Kyneton is in the heart of the Macedon Ranges Shire and is just a stone’s throw away from some of the most beautiful natural wonders in the state. There are waterfalls, walks and mountains enough for any wilderness lover. Here are five that we recommend you visit.
Hanging Rock: The iconic Hanging Rock is a must-see in the Macedon Ranges. Read up on the history of the information centre before you begin your climb amid the towering gums. At the summit, the kids will love to explore the unique rocks and there are a variety of spots to sit and enjoy spectacular views. When you return to the base, check out the children’s playground and have a drink or meal at the charming cafe.
Turpin Falls: Just ten minutes out of Kyneton, hidden down below the green paddocks of Langley are the beautiful Turpin Falls. Tread carefully down the steep descent, find a peaceful spot at the bottom amongst the lush vegetation and take in the beautiful view of the falls.
Campaspe River Walk: This walk begins at the Mollison Street Bridge and ends at the Kyneton Racecourse. It is a tranquil route to jog, walk your dog and enjoy the variety of fauna and flora.
Trentham Falls: Trentham Falls is a delightful place for a day trip. The walk down to the lookout is easy for people of any age. The falls look their best in the cooler months or after a deluge of rain but the surrounding bushland always provides a serene environment. Bring along a picnic or head toward the town afterwards for lunch at one of the many eateries.
Mount Macedon: Mount Macedon abounds with a variety of walking tracks and stunning views. From the amazing prospect at the Major Mitchell Lookout and Memorial Cross to the lush bush of Sanatorium Lake and Camels Hump. There is an endless number of walks and nature to be had.
