The Christmas holidays will be upon us soon. Whether you live in the area or are about to make a move here, there are plenty of exciting destinations to visit in Kyneton this summer.
Take the family for a step back into history and visit the Kyneton Museum. Located on Piper Street, the historic bluestone building was built in 1856 and houses over 9000 objects that tell the social history of the town from early settlement. The museum is open from 11 am to 4 pm from Friday to Sunday and it is only a $10 entry fee for a family. It’s perfect for a rainy day excursion.
Only a short drive out of town is the lush Black Hill Reserve, which is also steeped in history. Read about the cultural significance of the site and its connection to the local indigenous people before you head off on one of the trails. Black Hill Reserve is a wonderful place to spot local wildlife in its natural habitat and has spectacular views across the Macedon Ranges. Be sure to pack your water bottle and be on the lookout for snakes on hotter days.
There is no better place to be than outdoors in the warmer weather and Kyneton Botanic Gardens is ideal for people of all ages. Enter through the historic gates on Mollison Street and wander through the eclectic mix of greenery, of which seventeen plants are listed by The National Trust. Dogs can be walked on a lead and no ball games are permitted in the Gardens. You may wish to sit and enjoy the serenity, or for those with young children, find yourself heading to the neighbouring Kyneton Community Park, at the path’s end.
Kyneton Ridge Estate Winery
Celebrate Summer in style and head out to Kyneton Ridge Winery for delicious food and wine with a view. The onsite cafe provides food that is intended to be shared, as well as scrumptious desserts and coffee. Enjoy the magnificent views of the landscape and wildlife outside, or check out the Ridge Art dedicated space inside. The Estate is open 11 am to 5 pm on weekends and dogs are welcome on a lead in the outdoor dining area.

St Paul’s Park
In the shadow of the magnificent St Paul’s Anglican Church and surrounding towering trees is St Paul’s Park. Home to the monthly Kyneton Farmers’ Market, this patch of land is a beautiful place to picnic in the shade and overlook the exciting Piper Street strip. Visit on December 11 for the Christmas Farmers’ and Makers Market where there will be a free prize draw of Christmas goodie bags as well as a free sausage sizzle for the kids all day!
