Kyneton’s Top Five Family-Friendly Hangouts

A joyful family playing and running on the field as doves began to swoop overhead

If you are new to the area and looking to meet other families in Kyneton, there are many ways you can forge connections.

Join a playgroup: Playgroups allow the kids to play while the adults can chat. Kyneton Playgroup has sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 am and 12 noon at the Kyneton Uniting Church Hall (but it is not affiliated with any religion). There is also the newly created RAD Dads Macedon Ranges, which has flexible times, and also has a focus on connecting local dads.

Visit your local library: Whether you head to the Kyneton Library for a regular story time session, or visit to borrow some books, you are sure to bump into other families doing the same. Our local libraries have evolved over the years. They are now a lively hub where there are regular workshops, displays, and activities for young and old alike.

Play at the local parks: Kyneton has many amazing playgrounds, perfect for families of all shapes and sizes. Kyneton Community Park is the largest with established trees, a diverse range of equipment, as well as a waterplay area. Jean Hayes Playground is fully fenced and next to the Visitor Information Centre. The Kyneton on Riverside Park is on the hill overlooking the estate with all your favourite apparatus and plenty of places to run and kick a ball.

Join a toy library: Utilising a toy library is a wonderful way to be sustainable, save money on toys and avoid cluttering your home. It is also a great way to meet other parents when you are picking and dropping off toys or volunteering your time.

Other favourites: Where do the local families hang out? Squishy Minnie is one local bookstore which will have the kids enchanted with its bright book displays. Black Hill Reserve is a wonderful spot to take a picnic, do a bit of bushwalking and spot some native animals. The monthly Kyneton Market and eateries like Social Foundry, Ruby Cafe and the local pubs are also great places for families to catch up over food.

Enjoy exploring the beautiful community and township that is Kyneton.
